It doesn't look huge in the pictures, but the caves are horrifyingly high and gigantic, and I'd like to practice a wee bit more before I try to conquer the rough terrains. I want to keep doing this, but Camp5's cost are too pricey (RM 30++ including harness and shoes) for me so I'll try out at Shah Alam or Wangsa Maju.

If you haven't done rock climbing you should try it out. It's free for first timers (Camp5).

Sad.

I was watching Kill Bill 1 and 2 the other day (marathon!) and afterwards I was surfing the net when I read the news that David Carradine was found dead. I am sure many movie buffs are aware of the actor's death, and probably more towards the unusual way he died.

Thai police told the BBC a hotel maid found the 72-year-old naked in a wardrobe with a cord around his neck and other parts of his body... Thai newspaper The Nation reported that police believe the actor took his own life, and preliminary investigations found that he hanged himself. [source]

Police believe Carradine, 72, died of accidental suffocation after attempting auto erotic asphyxiation – a sex game where participants derive pleasure from being partially strangled. It's just kind of eerie that I would watch Kill Bill and find out about the news later. If he did die from the autoeroticasphyxiation - in my opinion, nothing wrong with doing whatever that gets your jollies off - then all I can say is at least he died happy. Or attempting to. Being the cheap food connoisseurs that we are, we opted for the lunch discount. The first time we went we had to wait close to 2 hours for a table.

Shark fin's soup on the left... no shark! Teppanyaki was nice.
Don't touch the oyster! Not fresh. Blegh.

Food so good I have some on my lips!

The second time we went to Shogun, we tried to book a few days in advance... FULLY BOOKED! But walk-ins available. The guy advised to wait around 9.30 am. So that we did. We were first in line, and an hour later, this was the abominable queue..

Excuse my pose! People getting hungry and impatient.

And at 11 am the hostess started handing out numbers. Some foolish people tried to cut the queue, but those who arrived early voiced their angry concerns with WEH WEHH!

At 11.45 a.m. everybody is antsy because everybody wants to get a place...

SHOGUN I am utterly disappointed in you. How is it fully booked if 300++ people can arrive for the walk-in reservations. A group of 16 people could enter as walk-in (we haf table) but we could not reserve. The management dealt with this wrongly... the waiting crowd outside was like a mob gang waiting orders from their mob boss.

Some tips:

Do not touch the raw stuff if you go.. it all smells and is not fresh.

Especially the tuna.. it smells funny.

Raw oysters are for the brave!

Go there for the teppanyaki, especially lamb + the mushrooms.

Tempura also not bad.

The okonomiyaki very good, but it finishes fast. Ask the chef to reserve for you.

Lamb shanks are a miss, very dry and not tender.

Most of the drinks are too sweet + cordial. Stick to the green tea or honey green tea.

Don't take too much of the eel, it is not to everybody's taste.

Shark fin's soup is msg msg and msg, no vinegar! Taste some only to whet your curiosity.

Try to eat the hot stuff first and cold stuff later; if you attack the sashimi bar first you will get nauseaus.

Avoid most rice! The handrolls sounds nice but it was very disappointing.

Arrive early to avoid disappointment.

ALAS the promotion finished yesterday but those wanting to try the buffet can still follow these guidelines. More pictures will be posted.. when I get them from Sha.

RANDOMNESS

At the "Monsters & Dinosaurs" Expo in Mid Valley... I could get into so much trouble for dishing the dirts on Malaysian shopper. I have come to realise the full extension of what it means to work in a retail store, where your face is a blurred image to other people, and they look at you as if you're dirt.

Girls. Stop being a bitch when you shop. Do you know how measly the pay is? Rarely do you find a shop where they pay more than RM 5 per hour. That's less than USD $2, per hour. In one day, it's 8 hours. RM 40. Equals to...

USD $11.35 FOR 8 HOURS!!

We slave ourselves to bend over and pick up all the trash the loving customers leave us, to re-fold clothes they pick up and then just toss away into a curled up ball - all for the sake of USD $11.35 for one day! Who the hell can live on that. Feet aches, you spend half your money on new shoes hoping it'd provide you some sole relief, but contemplating the pay, it really isn't that much. It's a pittance!

I admit, I envy girls who are born rich and don't have to worry a thing about working. I've been working since I was 16 years old and I feel so old! I feel so underpaid!

Under the Labour Law (Malaysia);

The normal work hours of an employee shall not exceed 8 hours in one day or 48 hours in one week.

That's bullshit. I've worked in 2 retail stores and both have asked me to work full (11 hours per day) and minimum of working hours per week is 53 hours!

An employer who fails to make contributions to EPF shall be guilty of an offense and shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 years or to a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or to both.
The place where I am currently working at does not pay EPF. Rather, we are given our wages weekly at a flat rate of RM 5 per hour. So if I was to file a complain, this company can actually be sued.

A company or firm with one or more employees whose individual earnings do not exceed RM1,000 a month has to register with SOCSO. The contributions for such employees are borne solely by the employer.
We have at least fifteen (15) workers! Ha! Take that, you chockful of megachain retail store. Nope, no socso here either.

All taken from http://www.jobsdb.com.ph/MY/EN/V6HTML/JobSeeker/handbook/regulation-of-employment

Obviously the Labour Law is being ignored by "standard" retail stores as many requires their staff to work more than 8 hours in a day several days a week. The Labour Law should state a minimum wage (of higher value) which would encourage more students to hold part-time jobs longer and prevent the high rate of "quitting" (to put it delicately). In the states kids are getting as much as USD $8 (MINIMUM!).

Honestly, the pay is lousy, non-encouraging yet most of us students need it to survive the following college intake or simply to support our lifestyle. I don't think I can take much more of looking at snobbish people's faces (some customers la, jangan perasan if it's not you) where they think just because they're shopping in your store apparently their money goes directly to your pocket.

St. Patricks Day.

AAARGHHH don't you just hate it when you've just hanged (hung? hang-ed? ahh forget it) your laundry and a few minutes later you can hear thunder rolling in the background and it's raining heavily. I love rain, but I hate having to re-hang the laundry in the kitchen, because most of the clothes are hanged (/hung) on wires.

MBAH.

Why is it raining constantly in Malaysia nowadays anyway? Monsoon season is supposed to start in a few months, and it is raining almost every bloody day! It's like a scene from the movie The Day After Tomorrow, except your hero-ine is afraid of rehanging her laundry instead of flight turbulence.

ANYWAY.

Me,Dan and Sheila went to St. Patrick's Day event a while ago, which was celebrated in One Utama. It was an excellent event, lots of people just came back from work and were guzzling Guiness to their heart's content.

Our balloon tower which grew to be 1 storey tall, and some video producer asked us to take it down because it was blocking their recording shot =(

Dan taking pictures of the balloons.

The stage, pre-event. Notice the colour-coordinate tables which was alternately covered with lime green and black tablecloths.

Just random camwhoring. This is my blog, after all. No make-up, scary!

They had a mechanical bull-riding machine and it was so violent! It nearly ripped the floor apart too.

Dan gets on shamelessly and a crowd gathers. The table behind us had 15 glasses of Guiness -_-

Shamrockin lamps and flyers everywhere.

SUMO-WRESTLING was the most entertaining activity! We had to get into this suit that was 5 inches thick (I fucking kid you not) and it took me 3 guys and 10 minutes to get in because it was simply too huge! There was supposed to be extra padding for the fingertips and toes but the guys gave up trying to put it on because it was just too huge. I'm with the red spandex, Dan's in blue.

One Utama also had an indoor sports tryouts. Camp5, is a huge rock-climbing gym where Dan works at.

Sheila tries to race with Dan but his experience in climbing proves to be too good/fast.

The happy loser! This was super fun too, but the balls already whizzed by before you barely lifted the bat. Haha, that sounds wrong.

Me and Sheila on the way back from Melaka to KL.

Only in Malaysia can you find vehicles that are carrying way more load than they're supposed to! My worst pet peeve is when they enter your lane without signalling!

HOW HARD IS IT JUST TO MOVE YOUR FINGERS A FEW CENTIMETERS TO PREVENT A POTENTIALLY PAINFUL AND EXPENSIVE ACCIDENT? Honestly, for most people it is "not cool" to signal entering a lane. Especially those wealthy drivers who drives BMWs and their Honda Civic, they just weave in and out, tailing you so close that the car bumpers are almost kissing, high beaming you like there's no tomorrow.

But I think the thing that pisses me off the most is when there is a 3rd lane converging into the 2nd lane from a u-turn and the car on the left absolutely refuses to let you through, as if it would kill them just to let you through. This especially happens during peak hour at the toll (the Kerinchi link, a taxi driver actually hit a guy's Kelisa because the taxi driver was too lazy to queue and the the Kelisa driver just didn't want to let the guy through - although this one, the taxi drivernye pasal la).

I also HATE motorcyclists that drive in between the 2nd and 3rd lane, like nobody's business, and they have the audacity to honk at you when they're in the wrong lane in the first place. Why do they risk that? This is true for those kapcai motorcycles, which, if involved in an accident, would stand no chance against those big wealthy cars. I saw quite a few accidents already, and those on motorcycles.... well they're just not that lucky.

IN OTHER NEWS... I recently attended my friend's sister's wedding, (or persandingan) and it was very beautiful, especially the food. Oh, how I love Malaysian cuisine.

The beautiful golden couple.

The beautiful and delish food.. we couldn't wait to unwrap the clingfilm..

The one in <s>orange</s> gold is our friend. I would like to think I have a strong sense of cultural roots, that I know my country as well as a local should, that I have conquered the important language of rojak and nice places to go when a foreigner comes, but most of all I love the food.

Aahh, food. Where else can you find a variety of food? Spicy, non-spicy. Plain, with curry? I remember once I was at the mamak and this 'hot' (you know, gorgeous being, perfectly plucked eyebrows, Grecian nose, perfect pouty lips) chick called the mamak and said:

'Mamak, nasi goreng kampung satu. Tapi tak nak ajinomoto, kurang garam, pedas lebih.. asingkan ikan bilis, udang tak nak!'

Translates to something along the lines of 'one fried rice kampung style... but no ajinomoto (famous flavouring used in almost all food here, MSG heavy), less salt, and more spicy... separate the anchovies, and don't put in the prawns'.

The mamak just geleng his head and said 'Itu nasi puteh namanye..' which translates to 'it's called white rice...'.

This is how a nasi goreng should look like, express-style, with frozen veg, lots of msg and sambal!

I love oysters by the way. The aphorodisiac food is very popular here, and most preferably fried in an omelette-style egg. But recently I discovered a pasta with oyster which sounds disgusting but tastes amazing.

Or you can have it raw, squeezed with lemon. I used to be squeamish about it but really it's an acquired taste, and sometimes you just cannot wait for the Japanese buffet at Gen Restaurent in Legend Hotel.

This is tosai masala, an amazing dish with potatoes on the inside and a crusty (somewhat) pastry base.

Lontong is also very famous, served with rice cubes in a very rich sauce. It's healthy in the sense that it has so much vegetables, but it automatically cancels out the healthy by the oil-laden, santan sauce. Yummy.

One of the best food that truly represents Malaysia is probably nasi kandar Penang style. It is a food saturated with curry, spices, and lots of fat. But it is so good. Depending where you go, you should definately try the sotong (squid) and/or ayam madu/kicap (chicken cooked in sweet or soya sauce).

But another food to rival the nasi kandar is probably ayam goreng, especially crispy ones. Thoughts of calories all fly out the window when you bite into a hot, piping one and just hear the crunchy noise.

To end. Obligatory camwhoring shot of me with a mee sup tulang rebus. I'm studying Mass Communication, and I have been blogging for almost eight (8) years, sometimes unfrequently, and most of the entries are private.

So HERE is where I hope to blog more sensibly and less about dramas and pmsing and emotions running high. Here is where I post what I see everyday, what it is like to live as a Malaysian student through my eyes!

I drink coffee way too much (Nescafe should sponsor me, I give out the 3-in-1s to my levelmates almost every day =/), I'm loud and noisy, a little materialistic, daydreamer to the point of being a little annoying, and I am not afraid to speak what is on my mind.

It's 2 am in the morning, I have just repaired my Acer laptop of less than 1 year for the second time (and somehow my webcam rosak and my battery life kong from 40 minutes --> 15 minutes when I sent it for repair), and now I cannot click the start button.

I hate Acer. Make me loose my work twice already (first time I didn't buy an external hard drive yet and I had to pay RM 80 to back up data, second time my external hard drive rosak and was sent for repair). All Western Digital and Acer products sucks, sigh.

I wish I was one of those bloggers who was paid to use items, sighh.
